Venus - A Runaway Greenhouse Effect?

The Earth and Venus are near each other in the Solar System, and are similar in size, density, and composition. Based on our understanding of the origin of the Solar System, we would expect that their initial atmospheres would have been rather similar. Yet the present atmospheres of the two planets could hardly be much more different than they are. How did this come to be? The reason is thought to lie in what is termed the "Runaway Greenhouse Effect".

Aquarium Plants - An Underwater Garden

The Rare Red Legged Honey Creeper

Recycling As A Form Of Offsetting

Every Thursday night, like every other householder in our neighborhood, I collect our waste paper, cans, bottles and plastic and put them out on the street outside our house. On Friday morning a local municipal truck comes by and collects it for recycling. I pay for this service through my taxes. Apart from some gripes about the efficiency of the service, few local people complain about it. And only a few extremists who tend to oppose government action in all its forms object to the recycling on principle.

The Tremendous Water Power Of A Tsunami

It is not very likely that the majority of us will ever experience what it is like to live through a powerful tsunami like those poor souls who did back in 2004. This is one of the most powerful tsunamis ever recorded in history and it destroyed so many lives as well as left millions homeless with no where to go. This horrible hazard delivered by Mother Nature has to be one of the worst disasters that the modern world has ever seen and what we did see was absolutely unbelievable.
