You cannot open a newspaper or news page on the internet these days without being filled with doom and gloom for all the reports of recession, credit crunch and housing market crashes. We even have predictions of how crime and violence as well as family breakdown will all be symptoms of people's hardship. But is this not scaremongering? Is it all really so bad?

The economy is in a downward trend. The housing boom that gave rise to about a thousand buy-and-flip-this-real-estate television shows and created little mini-investors all over the country has become more of a whisper than a boom. You know that when even that gorgeous house that underwent an extreme home makeover hits foreclosure, the market is crazy, right? Actually, that is not really true, as when the real estate industry suffers, it is often the higher-end homes and the lower-end homes that take the biggest financial hit.

The tough economic times have given an unexpected opportunity to people whose cars could be repossessed. Vehicle repossessions in 2008 are up 10% and analysts expect 1.6 million repossessions nationwide. Much like the trend with home foreclosures, however, many lenders are trying to keep borrowers in their cars. Repossessed vehicles are selling way below blue book value at auction and very likely below outstanding balances on the loans. Because of this, banks, finance companies and credit unions are increasingly willing to adjust loans because they're losing money. In this case their loss could be the consumers gain.

Up until about the '60s and '70s, women's undergarments were made to serve a few different functions or purposes, none of them being sensuality or femininity. Learning the history of lingerie should make any woman thankful to have been born during this particular time. A time when ideas regarding the female form and women in general have morphed so drastically from just a century ago, and the changes in lingerie have certainly reflected this.
